Green Bean Casserole

The pan that empties fastest at One Table Florence, and the one new cooks are always given. It is six ingredients, one bowl and half an hour in the oven, scaled to fill a 9x13 properly rather than the thin layer most recipes give you.

Ingredients

  • 5 cans (15 oz) cut green beans, drained, about 8 cups
  • 2 cans (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2⅔ cups French fried onions, divided

Directions

  1. Heat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Spray a 9x13 pan with cooking spray and set it aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce and pepper.
  4. Add the drained green beans and 1⅓ cups of the fried onions. Mix well.
  5. Pour into the pan and bake 30 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining 1⅓ cups of onions over the top and bake 5 minutes more, until the onions are toasted.

If this pan is headed for One Table Florence, bring it to the Lawton-Chase House, 558 Spruce Street, on Thanksgiving morning between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. Pull through the circle drive, follow the food drop-off signs, and hand the pan off with the lid on. Then park at First Presbyterian and come eat with us.
